Def Leppard / KONGOS News

Def Leppard recently recorded He’s Gonna Step On You Again by John Kongos (our dad) for their new covers album YEAH!. Cool.

The album also includes songs originally done by David Bowie, T. Rex, The Kinks, Thin Lizzy, Sweet, Badfinger and more.

We got to meet them last week when they played in Phoenix. They were really nice guys and USED SOME OF DANNY’S PHOTOS ON THEIR WEBSITE!

Buy YEAH! on iTunes.

For that matter, buy the original on iTunes.

KONGOS EP

Showcasing a wide array of influences on their debut, Kongos’ impressive EP shows a musical maturity years beyond their ages (16 to 23). The five songs are constructed with a complexity that challenges the ear, while the ebb and flow of sonic dynamics frames distinct melodies and memorable hooks. The discs opener, The Way, showcases singer Dylan Kongos’ high-low harmonies that recall early 80s pop heroes Squeeze, an escalating guitar riff and a percussion and accordian break that sounds vaguely Indian in its psychedelic beauty. The CDs best cut, Remember Me, is driven by a heavy synth and guitar riff that gives a knowing wink to Led Zeppelin, heads into a Beatle-esque verse with a lush acoustic chord progression and is broken up by a jazzy piano break before culminating with more heavy riffing. This EP is a pleasing listen for lovers of melody and tight, intricate songwriting.
